The actress shared stories with Elizabeth Montgomery and revealed that she has a Jeannie bottle at home
Melissa Joan Hart recently had a virtual guest, actress Erin Murphy, who played Tabitha on Bewitched, on her podcast.
Melissa, who is best known for her role as the protagonist of the 90s sitcom Sabrina, The Teenage Witch, shared that she often gets mistaken for the actress who played Tabitha. During the conversation, she expressed her admiration for Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie, which she considers to be trailblazers that made it possible for Sabrina to have a successful run of seven seasons from 1996 to 2003.
Erin Murphy, who is now 59 years old, made her debut in the TV show Bewitched when she was barely two years old. In a recent interview, she shared some interesting behind-the-scenes moments from the show, including her first memory on set, which was of an elephant covered in colorful dots. Erin was likely referring to the 1966 episode, S03E15 A Gazebo Never Forgets, where Aunt Clara magically appears with the animal in the Stephens' living room.
In 1972, ABC canceled the series even though they had already signed the entire team for another two years. During the break between the eighth and ninth seasons, Elizabeth Montgomery, who played the lead role, decided not to return to the series. The whole cast was informed about the end of the series through letters. One of these letters was intended for Agnes Moorehead, who played Endora. When the actress's files were donated to a library in the United States, the document became public. Harry Ackerman, the vice president of Screen Gems, a Columbia Pictures subsidiary responsible for the series, signed the letter.
During an interview, Erin mentioned that she does not keep any of the dolls, scripts, or clothes from Tabitha. However, she ironically possesses an original replica of the I Dream of Jeannie bottle that she received from Barbara Eden, who played the character of Jeannie for five seasons between 1965 and 1970.
Erin has fond memories of Elizabeth Montgomery, not only as a fun person but also as a powerful woman who ventured into a male-dominated industry. In addition to her acting career, she was one of the producers who signed Bewitched. Erin comments that Elizabeth was spicy both in her roles and in her personal life, and her temperament was more akin to Serena's character than Samantha's.
