Originally aired on October 30, 1969, “To Trick or Treat or Not to Trick or Treat” earned the lowest IMDb rating among Bewitched’s Halloween episodes.

When Darrin mocks the witches’ holiday, Endora decides to teach him a lesson by turning him into a stereotypical witch. This episode is part of the sixth season, notable for introducing Dick Sargent as the new Darrin. His makeup and costume are a playful homage to Margaret Hamilton, the Wicked Witch of the West from The Wizard of Oz (1939).

Aired during the first season, “The Witches Are Out” marked Bewitched’s very first Halloween episode.

In the story, Samantha is upset when Darrin’s client, Mr. Brinkman, insists on using the image of an ugly, old witch in his new ad campaign. With the help of Aunt Clara and fellow witches Bertha and Mary, she decides to teach the prejudiced client a well-deserved magical lesson.

Following the narrative style of the show’s first year, the episode emphasizes the theme of prejudice and stereotypes, leaving the special effects in the background. With an IMDb score of 8.2, it ranks fourth among the most beloved Halloween episodes.

It also marks the debut of veteran actress Marion Lorne as the lovable and clumsy Aunt Clara, who would become one of the most endearing characters in the series.

“Twitch or Treat” (Season 3) stands out as the first color Halloween episode, produced during Bewitched’s transition from black and white to color.

The episode’s set design is remarkable, using vibrant colors and detailed props to fully embrace the new technology. In the plot, Endora throws a Halloween party at Samantha and Darrin’s house, while Uncle Arthur, upset at not being invited, crashes the event and stirs up chaos. Meanwhile, Samantha must keep nosy neighbor Gladys Kravitz away from the scene.

Despite contradicting what we previously knew about Endora’s feelings toward Halloween, this episode is highly entertaining. During its third season, Bewitched was enjoying one of its creative peaks, with inspired writing and a perfectly in-sync cast.

This is one of eleven episodes in which Paul Lynde delighted audiences as the eccentric Uncle Arthur, delivering sharp humor and unforgettable chemistry with Agnes Moorehead. Sandra Gould, who replaced Alice Pearce as Gladys Kravitz, also makes her first appearance in a Halloween special, solidifying her role in the series’ legacy.

Baseball legend Willie Mays makes a brief but memorable cameo as himself, surprising Darrin when he discovers that the athlete is also a warlock.

With an IMDb score of 8.5, this episode earns the third spot in the ranking and remains a fan favorite for its perfect mix of color, comedy, and chaos.

Originally aired on October 26, 1967, “The Safe and Sane Halloween” places Tabitha at the heart of the story.

In the plot, Samantha and Darrin introduce their daughter to Halloween traditions, but her imagination takes over. Fascinated by a storybook, Tabitha magically brings three characters — a leprechaun, a Jack-o'-Lantern, and a troll — into the real world without her mother’s knowledge.

The troll character later reappears two years later in Season 7, Episode 19, “Samantha and the Troll”, once again played by Felix Silla.

With its whimsical tone and imaginative visuals, the episode showcases Bewitched at its most creative. Scoring 8.7 on IMDb, it’s often remembered as the ultimate Halloween favorite, earning the top spot in this countdown thanks to the high number of fan votes.

Originally aired on October 28, 1965, “Twitch or Treat” (Season 2) takes the classic clash between Endora and Darrin to new heights when she transforms him into a werewolf.

The story unfolds with impeccable comedic timing as Larry Tate and a client unexpectedly drop by the Stephens’ house. Dick York delivers one of his finest performances, showcasing his brilliant physical comedy as Darrin’s transformation becomes increasingly wild and hilarious.

At just nine years old, Maureen McCormick makes a delightful appearance as young Endora, adding a whimsical touch to the episode.

Among all eight seasons of Bewitched, this is arguably the most memorable Halloween-themed story. Much like “The Safe and Sane Halloween”, it holds an IMDb score of 8.7, but stands out for having a significantly higher number of votes, securing its place as a fan favorite.

The Bewitched Halloween episodes are far more than simple themed stories. They capture the creative and enchanting spirit that made the series a true television classic. Each special brought something unique — magical effects, sharp humor, unforgettable guest appearances, and gentle messages about tolerance, family, and imagination.

More than half a century later, these adventures continue to delight new generations, reminding us why Bewitched remains one of the most beloved series of all time.
